It's more than a hashtag


With the 4th liquor ban finally over, the SA wine industry has their work cut out for them in trying to recoup after being knocked down again.

We see some labels coming together on common ground to support and build one another up. This is the perseverance that is consistent in the South African wine industry and the more than 300 000 people it supports.

From winery collaborations to Save & Support initiatives, I have seen this industry pull together to create a support system that put every government division to shame. With a lack of help from Covid relief, many restaurants and wineries found themselves stranded with risk of closure.

Larger, family-owned wineries and huge corporate wine distributors began coming forward with donations for winery and restaurant relief funds.


The international market also played a huge part in helping our market regain some strength.

At the beginning we couldn't even export. Farms never stop running. Wine never stops aging. Our industry is a living, breathing entity."

With the help from importers like Rakq.uk and various others, the issue of domestic liquor bans made global news. Help was offered from every corner of the globe and in some odd turn of events, the world became hyper-focused on the South African wine industry. The demand for all of the #SaveSAWine deals around the globe increased exponentially.


We would never have been able to survive without one another. Our community is more closely knit than ever because of the pandemic. We adapted and we survived.
